About Essentials

Essentials began back in 1989 when Steven Hayden & Barry Gymer decided, after working together, to form their own company believing that they could offer a unique and superior service to there existing contacts in the hair & beauty industry, with Barry having some 30 years experience in the industry and Steve, a young man at the time, with a huge amount of drive and potential but already gaining valuable contacts in his short time in the industry. Based in Islington, London, supplying some of the most high profile and celebrated hairdressers and salons they quickly formed a company renowned for its very high level of customer service and reliable supply of wholesale products.  This quickly evolved with them setting up sister company Upfront Marketing Ltd, a company designed to work with exclusive retails brands and products for the professional hair and beauty industry.  With the main ethos behind the company being customer service and providing the salons owners and staff with the same high level of service that they would offer there customers, ultimately leaving them happy and satisfied with every order.  In 2000 this meant the need for expansion, and so relocated next to Holborn Studios, still in Islington but providing purpose built warehouse space and offices meant the company could grow and increase both its clients/customers as well as services and products offered to them.


In 2001, it was decided to become a limited company and so both Essentials and Upfront Marketing Ltd would now be known as Essentials Hair & Beauty Ltd, although this may not have been obvious to the customers, it meant the companies were more streamlined and could offer an increased level of service and commitment to providing customers with not only the wholesale lines but also introducing them to some of the most exclusive brands and products that the industry could offer, as well as introducing new products, to its constantly growing client base.


In 2007, Barry decided that after some 50 years in the industry it was time to retire, so it was left to Steve to continue growing and expanding the services offered, with this in mind in 2008 the company once again relocated, this time to Waltham Abbey, Essex, again with purpose built offices and warehouse space but now with the added service of its 'cash & carry' facility. Since then the company remained with its main focus of customer service but opening itself up to a wider cliental, now covering all its valued and loyal customers in London but also growing into the Herts & Essex areas.


This now leads us to the next chapter for the company with the website and rebranding, we hope to continue to offer our high levels of customer service that our customers expect and have become reliant on but it now opens us up to become a national company, still offering you all the wholesale brands you know and love and still working alongside exclusive brands/products, always seeking the latest and best and introducing them to you, our valued customer.
